However you say it, the quest to a spiritual finality in life seems so impractical but so vital. It is Maslow’s top tier in his hierarchy of needs and perhaps a purpose of being for some. There are those of us who search for satoshi in religion, some in art, while others devote themselves to helping the world’s less fortunate. Either path helps society in some way. As the biblical saying goes, “Man cannot live by bread alone.”
Pure Heart – Dirty Sole is the musings of a Karate Sensei – me – spending much of my time in the dojo barefoot or practicing Shodou. It is a ride on the bumpy bus going somewhere that is not yet determined. It is a place where I can find balance between the esoteric world of art and the real drama that society brings in the world of Karate-Dou . This is an intellectual x-ray of my journey where through a discipline/art borne raw out of violence I can find the key to Satoshi climbing the steps from just a practical Karate-ka to a spiritual Budo-ka.
